The Calhoun County Courthouse, erected in 1959, was designed in a Modern style by Rusty and Martin of Houston.
The county, named for John C. Calhoun, a prominent national politician from South Carolina, is located along the mid-Texas coast where U.S. Highway 87 begins and the Guadalupe River ends.

County Progress Magazine launched a series dedicated to the restoration and renovation of our county capitols. Titled
“Courthouse Trails,” this series recaps the efforts of counties across the Lone Star State who have taken special measures to restore their capitols to their original splendor and/or launch comprehensive renovation projects to ensure safety and workability, culminating in the proud rededication of their courthouses.

Can We Swell the Waters?
For the first time in the career of many county and state officials, the state total property tax valuation will decline this year, said Jim Allison, general counsel of the County Judges and Commissioners Association of Texas.
